Abstract: A farm practice was conducted at Labrador's Poultry Farm in Lumampong Halayhay, Indang, Cavite from October 28, to December 12, 1996. One thousand one hundred fifty (1,150) straight-run commercial day-old chicks were used in this project to determine the profitability of backyard broiler production, and to help the student gain managerial experience and acquire more knowledge through actual operation. After seven weeks of rearing, the birds consumed a total of P 5,087.50 kg of feeds or an average of 4.48 kg, attained a total final body weight of P 2,354.75 kg or an average of 2.09 kg and obtained a feed efficiency of 2.19 kg per kilogram gain in weight. Mortality of birds from day-old up to seven weeks was 2 percent lower than the projected 4 percent. The whole operation had total expenses of P 79,839.31, a gross income of P 103,638.92, and a net income of P 23,799.61 with an ROI of 30 percent.
