The study was conducted in selected municipalities of Upland Cavite, namely: Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang, Mendez and Tagaytay. It aimed to gather information about the cultural practices and technologies in yam production being practiced by the farmers identify the problems encountered in yarn production; and determine if farmers are adopting modern technologies in yam production. A total of 50 respondents were randomly selected from chosen barangays. Data were collected through personal interview with the farmers. During the actual interview, questions presented in English were translated in Tagalog. Almost 88% of the respondents were married with a mean age of 49.86 years. All of the respondents had formal schooling, and almost one-half reached high school. The average number of family members was eight. Half of the farmer-respondents were owner operators. They have an average of 10.5 years in growing yarn. Almost 46% of respondents had 6,000 to 10,000 sq. m land area. Majority of the farmers claimed that planting yarn is an additional income to their major crops. The cultural management practices of yam farmers identified include land preparation, planting, weeding, fertilizer application, trellising, pest and disease management and harvesting.
