Abstract: GALIT, NORMITA CUENO. Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite, April 1991. "DES IGN CONSTRUCT ION AND EVALUAT ION OF A MANUALLY OPERATED PEANUT SHELLER". Adviser: Engr. Eufemio G. Barcelon. A manually operated peanut sheller was designed and constructed at the Department of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology, to evaluate the performance of the peanut sheller and analyze the cost and return for small scale peanut production. The principal components of the machine was made up of wood. The machine basically consists of the shelling drum, cylinder, hopper and stand. The machine was made portable for easy handling operation and maintenance. Highly significant results were obtained in terms of shelling efficiency, feeding capacity and percentage undamaged nuts. Results showed that an angular speed of 100 rpm gave the highest feeding capacity of 0. 92 kg/ min, shelling efficiency of 93. 75 percent and percentage undamaged nuts of 95. 50. Results revealed that shelling efficiency, feeding capacity and percentage undamaged nuts were significantly affected by the . angular speeds. The cost of the machine is P6B5a 75. I t has a pay back period of d4 hours, and a breakeven point of 2.76 ki log ram per hour. A net return of P2, 166. 00 per year can be attained.
