Abstract: CREENCIA, ERLYN SARMIENTO. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 1998. Correlates of Achievement in Edukasyonq Pantahanan at Panqkabuhavan (EPP) of Grade VI Pupils in Some Selected Public Schools in Southern Cavite. Major Professor: Dr. Constancia G. Cueno. The study was conducted to determine the correlates of EPP achievement of Grade VI pupils in some selected public schools in Southern Cavite for the school year 1997 —1998. Specifically, it was intended to determine teacher-related factors such as age, gender, civil status, appointment status, rank, civil service eligibility, educational attainment, teaching experience, seminars attended and personality traits; the school's EPP laboratory and its correlation with pupils' achievement; the status of the school in terms of EPP laboratory and the level of pupils' achievement in EPP. It used the descriptive-correlational method of research. The respondents were the Grade VI EPP teachers and their pupils. The fishbowl technique was used to select the samples. A questionnaire composed of three parts was used to obtain the required data. It also made use of the pupils' Form 137 in order to get the grades of pupils during the first three grading periods of S. Y. 1997 — 1998. The statistical measures employed were frequency counts, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and Point Biserial Correlation Coefficient. After analyzing and interpreting the data, the following were revealed: The average age of teacher-respondents fell under the middle age (35-45 years old) bracket. More than one half of them were females. Likewise, most of the teachers were already married, some were still single while a few of them were separated or widower. Almost all of the respondents were on permanent status. Most of them were Teacher l, some were Teacher Il and Teacher Ill. Very few were Master Teachers. On the other hand, almost all of them were eligible. The teacher respondents wanted to grow more professionally by pursuing graduate studies. In fact, most of them have MA units, five of them already finished the degree and one already had a doctoral degree. With regard to their teaching experience, they were "more experienced" to teach the subject. Very few were able to attend seminars and workshops especially if these were national, regional and division seminars. Some had attended a number of seminars at the district level. Most of the respondents belonged to Type A personality. The average achievement of pupils in EPP fell under the satisfactory level. Among the four phases of EPP, only Industrial Arts had inadequate tools and equipment. The remaining three phases like Elementary Agriculture, Home Economics and Retail Trade had adequate tools and equipment. None among the teacher-related factors was found to be significantly related to pupils' achievement. Only the EPP laboratory tools and equipment in Home Economics was significantly related to pupils' achievement.
