Abstract: Salazar, Belen Dimaranan, Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite Demand Analysis of Cut flowers and Foliage Plants in Selected Towns of of Cavite Adviser: Antonio C. Gerundio The study was conducted in some selected municipalities of Cavite namely Silang, Bacoor, Amadeo, Mendez and Tagaytay City with the following objectives: 1) to evaluate or assess the present market demand of cut flowers and foliage plants; 2) to determine how the consumption of ornamentals respond to price changes, price of substitute commodity and income of the consumers ; 3) ascertain the degree of relationship between quantity demanded for ornamentals and selected variables ; 4) to trace the problems encountered by the consumers and the retailers ; and 5) formulate the possible solutions and/or re recommendations. A total of 77 consumers and 27 retailers were interviewed using an interview schedule. Majority of the consumers belonged to the middle— age group with an average age of 42.3 years. Majority had four to five household members, Generally, they had high levels of education since majority have had total schooling and about 360 36 percent attended college. Majority had incomes between no,P10,000-P33,000.The quantity demanded for gladiola and daisy were influenced by the consumers' income. Similarly, quantity demanded for gladiola was also influenced by its own price and the price of daisy as substitute. On the other hand, the quantity demanded for daisy was not influenced its own price the price of substitute individual1 y, It was noted that, quantity demanded for daisy was jointly affected 'oy its own price and price of gladiola, income and the number of consumers under consideration, Consumers (demand for gladiola, however was not affected by the hypothesized variable, On the other hand, the prices of foliage Plants such as Japanese bamboo, lady’s corn and bougainvillea influenced the quantity demanded, Price variations occurred during ILay and June when the demand was at its peak. Most often price remained stable while the quantity demanded significantly fluctuated. Fluctuations could be attributed to the other factors which were not taken into account like the taste and preference of consumers, income of purchasers and other seasonality factors on the use of foliage plants.
