Abstract: ALMARIO, KENNETH M. and FERRER, JONATHAN R., Design And Development of An Automated Flood Alarm And Monitoring System. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. May 2012, Adviser Engr. Edwin R. Arboleda. The main objective of the design was the development of an automated flood alarm and monitoring system. Specifically, it aimed to assemble and construct a sensor unit for the system that is waterproof and reliable. The design and construction of a microcontroller unit that would control the operation of the system was also made. The interfacing process between the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) module, microcontroller unit and the sensor unit was also accomplished. The software for the proper input and output of data in the microcontroller unit was also operational. The testing and evaluation of the performance of the system was made based on the detection reliability of the sensors and transmission and reception of Short Messaging System (SMS) messages. The cost computation of the study was also conducted. The system used the Programmable Integrated Circuit (PIC) Basic language in software development with the help of the Proton+ program and its compiler PIC16F877A microcontroller was used due to its number of ports that is capable of handling the input and output of data in the system. The ports were used in interfacing the whole system with the other units like the power supply, GSM Module, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) module, relay driver circuit, the sensor unit and push button. The testing and evaluation of the project was done at the ground floor of the Engineering Science Building to test the performance of the system, The detection reliability of the sensors and the transmission and reception time of the SMS messages were tabulated. Chi square was used in the analysis of the data for detection reliability while Z-test was used on the transmission and reception time table. Such tools were necessary for the treatment of data. The total cost of the design project was Php 24,448.00.
