Abstract: SALSALIDA, ROSE ANN P. and VICTORIA, ALLAN CHRISTIAN C. CLASSHOME: Proposed Classroom Architectural Design Guidelines Based on the Behavioral Patterns of Children with Intellectual Exceptionalities. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2018. Adviser: Ar. Elda Magna Guinto. The study was conducted from August 2017 to May 2018 at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite and in selected Special Education Elementary School in the province of Cavite, to be able to propose a classroom architectural design guidelines based on the behavioral patterns of children with intellectual disabilities. Specifically, the study aimed to 1. determine the general conditions and behavioral patterns of intellectually challenged children; and what makes them an important design consideration; 2. identify the factors to be considered in designing spaces for intellectually challenged students; 3. provide strategies in designing environment to support and stimulate the development of intellectually challenged students major areas: physical, social and intellectual growth; 4. establish the criteria and design guidelines in designing classroom for different types of intellectually challenged pupils in Cavite; and 5. provide possible designs and materials to be used in building classrooms for intellectually impaired students. Literature search, ocular visits, observations, interviews, photo and video taking, and behavioral analysis were conducted to gather all the necessary data. From the proponents' observations to selected elementary schools with special education, they have analyzed the unique of children with intellectual disability and presented behavioral analysis through sketches. The proponents used Responsive Architecture as the design concept. This concerns how the design might impact the users on the way they feel, think, and behave. The proponents also discussed the following design considerations which are very important in the design solution: Location, Sensory Zoning, Circulation, Lighting, Ventilation, Acoustics, Accessibility, Orientation, Visuals, Safety, Behavior of the users and Materials. Design strategies were presented on the realizations of the design considerations. The proponents presented space programming, color theories and design standards to defend their proposed designs. At the end of the study, the proponents concluded that the awareness of the preferences of students with intellectual disabilities is an important factor in the design process. The proposed designs were, based on analysis, can improve the users' mood, productivity, and health. The study will serve as a good for designers and other researchers. The proponents highly recommends the design proposals to Department of Education and to all allied professions and organization which can help this study improve and be realized.
