Abstract: PANALIGAN, MARISSA CARAIG. Training Needs Assessment of Barangay Health Workers in Selected Towns of Batangas. B.S. Thesis, Bachelor of Science in Development Management major in Training Program Management, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2002. Adviser: Dr. Antonio G. Papa. The study was conducted to assess the training needs of Barangay Health Workers in selected towns of Batangas. Specifically, it aimed: to determine the socio- economic characteristics of Barangay Health Workers in selected towns of Batangas; determine the training needs of Barangay Health Workers based on subject matters; identify the training preferences of health workers regarding the manner, method, organization to sponsor, venue and duration of training, identify the problems encountered by Barangay Health Workers and to prepare a training design based on the needs of the Barangay Health Workers. A total of 100 Barangay Health Workers as respondents, were selected through multi-stage and simple random sampling. Data were gathered through interviews using a prepared interview schedule and were analyzed using frequency counts, means, percentages, ranges and ranks. The ages of the respondents ranged from 22 to 69 with an average of 38 years. Majority of them were female and married. The average number of dependents was five. Most of the respondents had formal schooling with 63 number of respondents. The average years of Barangay Health Workers in health services was 10 years. Most of the The source of income of 31 percent of the respondents was farming. With regard to the training needs, most of Barangay Health Workers identified training needs on maternal and child health. Shortage on the supply of medicine was one problem encountered by BHWs as well as the lack of cooperation among the 100 respondents. The ineffective performance in delivering health service to the community was also one of the major problems.
