Abstract: ALTARES, ARBIE B., ANASCO, FRANCE ANDREI J., and LANGIT, DENVER NIECO D. Relationship Between Perceived Impact of Pandemic and Motivational Level of University Athletes Participating in Combative Sports in Cavite State University Main Campus S.Y 2020-2022. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science major in Fitness and Sport Management. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. September 2022. Adviser: Mr. Ronnel P. Cuachin. The study was conducted from July 26, 2022, to September 6, 2022, at the College of Sports and Physical Education and Recreation, Cavite State University- main campus. This was conducted to determine the relationship between the perceived impact of pandemic and motivational level of university athletes participating in combative sports in Cavite State University-main campus. Moreover, the quantitative study used a descriptive-correlation method that determined the relationship between relationship between perceived impact of pandemic and motivational level of university athletes participating in combative sports in Cavite State University-main campus. The study was focused on the 40 university athletes participating in combative sports including Taekwondo (20), Karate (11), and Arnis (9) from Cavite State University-main campus. Quota sampling techniques was used in this study. For the data collection, the researchers used survey questionnaires, where all procedures were done through online dissemination. The researchers used Google forms to collect data and informed consent was included upon distribution of the survey link. The study revealed that most participants were 21 years old and below, which implies that the university athletes who participated in combative sports were primarily young adults. In terms of the university athletes' sex, majority of them were male (57.50%). It also revealed that 100 percent of the university athletes participated in the year 2021. Moreover, the study revealed that the level of motivation of the participants obtained an overall mean of 3.98 which implies that the university athletes are still motivated. In the results, Table 7 revealed that the perceived impact of the pandemic. to the participants' motivation obtained the P-value of <.001. Since it is less than the significance level of 0.05, therefore the null hypothesis was rejected, which implies that there is a highly significant relationship between the perceived impact of the pandemic to the level of athletes' motivation. Additionally, the relationship between the sex and participants' level of motivation indicated that male athletes' motivation is greater (Mean = 4.14) than the female athletes' motivation (Mean = 3.77). The p-value obtained was .03 and since this is less than the level of significance of 0.05, the null hypothesis was rejected. This implies that there is a significant difference in the level of athletes' motivation in terms of sex. Furthermore, in terms of the age and the participants' level of motivation, the study revealed that the level of motivation is greater for 22 years old and above (Mean = 4.24) than for 21 years old and below (Mean 3.39). It obtained the p-value of .15, hence the null hypothesis was accepted. This indicates that there is no significant difference in the level of athletes' motivation in terms of age. It is therefore recommended that athletes must engage in physical activities at home to maintain motivated despite the pandemic. Those who engaged in physical activity prior to confinement indicated high levels of autonomous motivation, personality, and current commitment to physical activity practice (Murillo et al., 2018; Duchatelet & Donche, 2019). Then teachers and coaches must conduct virtual activities, training and seminar-workshops that could maintain the level of motivation and skills of their athletes even during the pandemic. Recent studies of Covid-19 and its impact on physical activity training (Hall et al., 2020; Hammami et al., 2020) found that many social agents (official agencies, fitness centers, personal trainers, etc.) have implemented mechanisms to facilitate physical activity practice from home, such as written guidelines and/or online videos.
