Abstract: AGBUYA, ELLA MAE A. Operation of Social Enterprises in Selected Areas of Metro Manila. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Business Economics. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, May 2018. Adviser: Ms. Jenny Beb F. Ebo. This study was conducted to determine the operation of social enterprises in selected areas of Metro Manila. Specifically, it helps to understand more on socioeconomic profile of social enterprise owners, business characteristics of social enterprise, operation of social enterprise, problems encountered by the social enterprise and the profitability analysis of social enterprise in order to know the effective management of a social enterprise businesses and its sustainability. The study was conducted in selected areas of Metro Manila, namely: Quezon City, Makati, Manila, Pasig, Paranaque, San Juan and Mandaluyong. A total of 17 social enterprise owners were interviewed in selected areas of Metro Manila. The tables are used to discuss the data gathered from the owners of social enterprises. Financial ratio such as gross profit margin, operating profit margin and net profit margin were used in determining the sustainability of the operation of social enterprises in selected areas of Metro Manila. Results of the study showed that all the social enterprise businesses in Metro Manila was in form of corporation and had been in operation for an average of 8 years. The majority of social enterprises were for profit organizations. It was also found that most of the social enterprise were located in areas where there are large number of customers.The participants had declared that the average starting capital of social enterprise owners was P492,352.94. The products offered for retail by social enterprise shops were handicrafts, jewelry, bags and accessories, green products, clothing, and footwear and for home and décor products. Most of the products were come from rural communities for local business development purposes stated by the owners. Most of the social enterprise shops were open from Mondays to Saturdays from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The average cost incurred in the operation was P823,636.36. The average gross profit margin of social enterprise was 65 percent, while the average operating profit margin was 42 percent, and the average net profit margin was 42 percent also. Seasonality of demand was the major problem encountered by social enterprise owners.
