Generally, the study was conducted to enable the student acquire knowledge and practical experiences on the different operations of a feed milling enterprise. Specifically, the study aimed to: present the production and marketing operations of the firm; identify the problems encountered; and recommend feasible solutions to the problems identified. Data were gathered through personal interviews with the officers and employees of the firm and through actual observations of the firm's activities. Secondary data were collected from the records of the firm. JTD Feeds Incorporated is a commercial feed milling business engaged in the production of different types of feeds for livestock animals. At present the firm is producing 28 types of feeds for poultry, layers, hogs, and quail. Aside from this, the firm also accepts contract growing arrangement and custom mixing with special formulation from its customers. The student performed various activities during his three-month period of field study such as: inventory counting of feeds produced; attending to the orders and inquiries of customers; selling of feeds to customers; recording of raw materials, and sales using simple accounting procedures; issuing of delivery receipts to delivery personnel and official receipts to customers; depositing cash and checks to MetroBank Tagaytay Branch; receiving and answering phone calls of customers; and making inquiries to the suppliers regarding the prices of raw materials to be used for production. The major problems experienced by the firm are: unpleasant attitudes of workers due to workers discontentment in the way the firm is being handled; numerous responsibilities handled by the workers even if the task assigned to them were no longer part of their job; more uncompleted and delayed jobs; shortage of raw materials needed in production due to delayed deliveries by the suppliers; and continuously increasing prices of materials which increase the firm's production costs. To solve the problems of the firm, the student suggested the following recommendations: the management should train its staff to encourage workers productivity, efficiency, and satisfaction, which will promote success of the business; create workers' compensation plans and benefit packages for employees, increase their salaries based on the jobs assigned to them, provide productivity incentives to increase total output and thus, profits; create a labor and management dialogue that will be held at least once a month on a regular basis in order to know the employees' grievances and to attend to their complaints if ever possible. To answer the problems of shortage of raw materials, the firm should have substitute suppliers of raw materials in case the major supplier cannot deliver on time or alternative suppliers who can provide the same materials at relatively the same prices; and placing orders earlier so that the suppliers will have enough time to prepare the materials. Developing feed combinations that will utilize local and low-priced materials may solve the problem with regards to the continuous increase in the prices of raw materials. If this is not possible, the firm must always supply first-class feeds to customers. JTD Feeds Inc. plans to increase its market through intensive sales campaign. The firm intends to gain additional customers and dealers not only from nearby towns but also in other areas within the region. The improvement of customer service, expansion of customer's credit facilities, in the types of feeds to be produced, and offering high-quality feeds to clients are some of the upcoming plans of the firm.
