Abstract: CATIENZA, HANNAH and DAROLE, JETHRO M. Employability Skills of Industrial Engineers Desired by the Selected Industries in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Engineer Gerry M. Castillo. The study was conducted to identify the employability skills, for both entry and promotional level, of the industrial engineering graduates as demanded by the industries in Cavite. With the use of validated survey questionnaire administered in this study, data were collect9c1 from the 19 participating companies. Choice-based analysis and descriptive analysis were used to determine: employers' preferences towards industrial engineers in the selection process from a pool of possible hypothetical profiles having different attributes and levels; employers' reason for promoting an industrial engineers; personality traits/qualities needed for hiring; and employers' level of satisfaction towards industrial engineers in their respective workplaces. Employability skills of industrial engineers desired by the selected industries in Cavite were identified. Work experience, personality traits, academic record and interview results are the top reason for hiring an industrial engineer for the positions of managerial, supervisory and technical level. Ideal applicant for: managerial level - certified industrial engineer industrial engineering graduate having a masters' degree with at least one year of experience; supervisory level and technical level - certified industrial engineer industrial engineering graduate having a bachelor's degree with at least two years of experience. The top criteria for promoting an industrial engineers were work experience, technical knowledge, and performance rating. Moreover, the top ten qualities employers are looking for in promoting an industrial engineer are leadership, good decision making, critical thinking, commitment, loyalty, listening to others, reliability, teamwork, adaptability and attention to detail. Effective communication skills, interpersonal or team working skills, engineering problem solving and decision making skills and competent in specific engineering principles were identified as absolutely essential for an industrial engineering graduates to nurtured and possessed. Notably, TESDA certification is considered with average importance. Furthermore, there are 35 industrial engineers in the 19 participating companies who were selected randomly for evaluation to measure the level of satisfaction of employers in terms of the listed skills. It was identified that employers are very satisfied in the communication skills of the industrial engineers at their respective workplaces. Recommendations were made for the improvement of employment of industrial engineering graduates and for the improvement of program curriculum in the quest to produce quality industrial engineering graduates that are highly capable of on-trend technologies and techniques. Recommendation were categorized based on the following: to the industrial engineering students; to the industrial engineering graduates; to the industrial engineering professors, and for future researchers, For the industrial engineering students, they are encouraged to develop a lifelong learning attitude, active engagement and initiative in involvement in organizational and academic activities inside and outside the university, prepare themselves to take CIE certification and spend effort developing extensive computer languages and literacy in various software widely used in today's employment market. To the industrial engineering graduates, they are encouraged to take the Industrial Engineering Certification Board Examination, acquire longer work experience, pursue higher education, invest effort and time to take relevant management workshops and trainings especially Lean Six Sigma certification. To the industrial engineering professors, they are also encouraged to modify the curriculum of the industrial engineering program through reduction of unnecessary courses replacing with courses that are highly and useful courses focusing students in nurturing skills and be proficient in on-trend techniques of the corporate world. For the future researchers, they should continue conducting and adapting researches relevant and related to this kind of study with the main purpose of educating students and graduates of industrial engineering program on in-demand employability skills, and widen the span of participants of the future studies.
