A farm practice activity entitled "Feedlot Cattle Fattening Using Force Feeding" was conducted at the backyard of Mr. Loreto Mojica in Barangay Agus-os, Indang, Cavite from September to December 1989. It aimed to give the student a chance to put into actual practice and transfer to the farmer the force feeding technology. One feeder stock, with an initial liveweight of 150 kilograms was used in this project. Guinea grass, ipil-ipil leaves and other natural grasses were used as roughages. Force feeding was practiced using a daily ration of 1 kilogram of rice bran, 0.1 kilogram of molasses and 15 grams of salt mixed in a half kerosene can of water (approximately 7 liters) for a four months fattening period. The cattle consumed a total of 132 kilograms of concentrate ration and 11800 kilograms of roughages during the feeding period. The animal attained a final body weight of 220.4 kilograms and a total gain in weight of 50.4 kilograms. At the end of the operation, the fattened stock marketed on a liveweight basis, gave a net income of P1,533.80.
