Abstract: ESTUESTA, EDISON M. Philippine Database and Services, Inc, Pasig, City, Field Study, Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Economics, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2001. Adviser: Mr. Adonis N. Meiiez. A three-month field study was conducted from September 11 to December 26, 2000 at the Philippine Database and Services, Inc. (PDSI). It aimed to expose the student trainee to the different activities of the firm. Specifically, it aimed to enable the student to apply and at the same time gain knowledge and skills in the business management; get exposure to and, if possible, learn the activities in the operation department of the service firm; and determine the problems commonly encountered by the company and formulate some feasible solutions to the various problems identified. The study did not cover the over all financial aspects because these were deemed confidential. The data were gathered through observations actual participation in the firm's activities and interviews with the personnel and other staff of the firm. Other relevant information were gathered from Securities and Exchange Commision (SEC), CvSu Research Center, and University Library. The Philippine Database and Services, Inc. is a service firm that caters to the general electronic data processing and computer services but not limited to, translation and transfer of source of data into computer media, technical consultation and or management services in connection with electronic data processing problems, needs and requirements, computer programming, procedures system, analysis and design and other related computer use problems. The trainee was assigned at the operation department. He was involved in filing of necessary data like billing statement, load sheet form, company's supply and official receipts made by the firm. He was responsible in opening envelope, sorting and clearing of manual load sheet, inventory of supplies, labeling and inserting of billing statement to envelop, recording the incoming and outgoing documents on log book and receiving and releasing documents form DTS encoder group and materials used. Other responsibilities done were stapling of feedback form at the back of envelope, cutting of feedback form, stamping the stickers to envelope and gum labeling. He was also trained on proper way of answering phone calls, filing documents and encoding of paper works. To improve the conduct of the field study, the coordinator should meet personally the representative of the firm to see to it that the students will be assigned to the area in accordance with the field of specialization. More computers subjects shall be included in the BSBM curriculum. Orientation program on computer programming shall be conducted before the students conduct their field study. The management should provide more computers to handle the jobs more efficiently and effectively.
