Abstract: MOJICA, CHRISTIAN RHEY P., CRIZALDO, MA. ALEXANDRA C., ROCELA, LORIELLE S. Applied Research III (General Science Curriculum) Cavite. State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2006 “PRODUCTION OF HANDMADE PAPER FROM LEAVES OF LOCAL AND IMPROVED VARIETIES OF BANANA”. Adviser: Dr. Teddy F. Tepora The study entitled “Production of Handmade Paper From Leaves of Local and Improved Varieties of Banana” was done to produce handmade paper from leaves of local and improved varieties of banana. This study was also done to determine if it is possible to make handmade paper from banana leaves; determine if paper made from leaves of Saba, Lakatan, Bungulan, FHIA-03, FHIA-21, and FHIA-23 will be comparable to commercial paper; determine how each of the varieties will differ in terms of texture, general acceptability, color and thickness; -and determine which of the treatments (Saba, Lakatan, Bungulan, FHIA-03, FHIA-21, and FHIA-23) will produce the best quality of paper. Seven treatments were used in the study: Treatment 1 — Commercial Paper; Treatment 2 — Lakatan Variety; Treatment 3 — Saba Variety; Treatment 4 — Bungulan Variety; Treatment 5 — FHIA-03; Treatment 6 —- FHIA-21; and Treatment 7 — FHIA-23. Based on the result of the study, treatment 6 (FHIA-21) was the most acceptable in terms of texture, thickness, and color and second in terms of general acceptability.
