Case study (B.S.A.--Agricultural Economics) Don Severino Agricultural College
Includes bibliographical references.
A farm practice on hog fattening through Agri- cultural Education Outreach Program-Income Generating Project Loan was conducted at the old piggery project of the College from September 1984 to January 1985,
The joint farm practice and supervised farming students! activities was envisioned to determine the profitability of fattening hogs through loan scheme, to develop managerial and manipulative skills on hog raising and to device appropriate solution to problems encountered,
The monetary benefits from raising four fattened hogs is relatively low considering the time spent in attending to the detailed activities in the project, and the way the project was financed through the college loan fund.
However, the ability to plan, to implement the plan, to follow up the plan and to device solution to a particular problem as acquired in the farm practice can- not be surpassed by monetary benefits. workers/employees where one is comfortable for a particular job is recommended.
The problems on the production aspect include the faulty design of the breeding pen, negligence on observation of the sows which are in heat/return heat and the incidence of death on piglets. These can be solved by proper designing of the different parts of the building and providing breeding crates. Also, assigning of worker who shall always observe the sows as well as proper recording of all activities should be done. The farm should also properly monitor its medication and vaccination program to avoid spread out of diseases.
