Zoo animal feeding: a natural history viewpoint -- Sessment of Gm plants and derived food and feed: the role of animal feeding trials -- Critical care nutrition for exotic animals -- Occurrence of multiple mycotoxins in European feedingstuffs, assessment of dietary intake by farm animals -- Animal manures: recycling and management technologies
“Basic animal nutrition and feeding discusses animals’ role in ecological balance, environmental stability and sustainable agriculture and food production. The regulation of nutrient partitioning offers a lively and timely discussion of emerging technologies in modifying and increasing efficiency of nutrient metabolism and animal food composition. The toxic minerals in the food chain address the role of agricultural production animal nutrition in protecting the environment from toxic levels of minerals and nitrogen in the food chain. First chapter describes the natural history for zoo animal feeding. In second chapter, the various elements of the safety and nutritional assessment procedure for genetically modified plant derived food and feed are discussed, in particular the potential and limitations of animal feeding trials for the safety and nutritional testing of whole GM food and feed. The aim of third chapter is to present critical care nutrition for exotic animals. Exotic animals presented to the veterinary hospital are often malnourished, particularly when ill. The goal of the fourth chapter is to determine 56 mycotoxins in a large set of 343 samples of animal feed. Last chapter deals with recycling and management technologies for animal manures.”--Back cover
