Abstract: MONTEALEGRE, CHERRY A., SANTOS CRISTINA B., and VERGARA EVALYN R. Design and Development of a Microprocessor-Based Filter Bagged Coffee Packager. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang,Cavite. May 2005 .Adviser: Mrs. Aileen V. Rocillo. A study was conducted to design and develop a microprocessor-based filter bagged coffee packaging machine. The machine was designed to automate the dispensing, filling, sealing and packaging of coffee in filter bags. The Microprocessor-based Filter Bagged Coffee Packager was composed of the microprocessor control unit and the filter bag coffee packager unit. The microprocessor control unit is comprised of 6802 microprocessor, 74LS245 IC bus transceiver, 2716 EPROM, 74LS 138 IC decoder, 74LS373 IC switch unit that store data, single pole switches, relays and power supply. The 6802 microprocessor served as the main component that controlled the operation of the whole system. While the filter bag coffee packaging unit was composed of dispenser, coffee ejector, paper roller, sealer and cylinder clamp. The software was developed using Assembly language. The software instructs the control unit for the machine's operation such as dispensing, filling of coffee granules and sealing of filter bag. Testing was done to ensure proper operation of the system. During testing, the microprocessor-based filter bagged coffee packager failed to packed coffee using filter bag due to excessive heat produce by the sealer. The filter paper melted as the sealer placed in contact. The design was not able to compare the number of bags packed by the machine to the manual method because there was no output produced. The only comparison that was done was to compare the weight of coffee granules dispensed by the machine to the weight in manual packing. The total cost, included the cost of materials used, and cost of fabrication and development of the software was PhP 28,397.028. Materials used were commercially available in the market.
