Abstract: DEQUIÑIA, ARLEIGH M. Training and Developmental Needs of Coffee Farmers in Selected Upland Towns in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Human Resource Development Management. Cavite State University, Indang Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Dr. Florindo C. Ilagan. The study was conducted in the five major coffee growing areas in the province of Cavite namely: Amadeo, Alfonso, Silang, Mendez, and Indang, which have the largest size of area planted with coffee to determine the training and developmental needs of the coffee farmers. Specifically this study aimed to determine the demographic profile of the coffee farmers in terms of age, gender, civil status, educational attainment and years of experience in coffee farming, as well as their farm profile such as size of the farm, coffee plant population and current planting capital. The participants training needs and developmental needs were also determined, and their level of necessities in both training and development. Likewise, significant relationships of training needs to demographic and farm profile and significant relationships of developmental needs to demographic profile and farm profile were also identified. The study used survey questionnaires to gather data from 200 coffee farmers. Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, Likelihood Ratio, Fisher's Exact Test and Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient were employed in the statistical analysis. The study found out that most of the respondents belong to the age group of 51 to 70 years old, male and married. Majority of the participants were high school graduates having 21 to 30 years of experience in coffee farming. Most of them have farm size ranging from 1 to 2 hectares, with less than 1,000 coffee planted and have capital utilization of at most P20,000. Coffee fanners were found to have different training and developmental needs. They have low level of need in field management and planting, and an average level of training needs in the other areas of coffee farming. In terms of developmental needs, they have low level of needs in all the identified areas. The training needs and developmental needs have no significant relationship with the demographic profile of the respondents except for their educational attainment. Furthermore, the results of the study showed that training needs and developmental needs of the coffee farmers have no significant relationship.
