College of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Natural Resources (CAFENR)
The farm practice training was conducted at the experimental field of the Don Severino Agricultural College from September 1986 to January 1987. It aimed to find out whether peanuts would thrive best in experimental fields with the application of technical knowledge in managing a peanut plantation and to disseminate information to the farmers about peanut production and management..
A 2,500 sq m. land was plowed and harrowed twice before peanut seeds were evenly drilled after the second plowing. Basal application of complete fertilizer (14-14-14) was employed before planting at the rate of 50 kilograms per hectare. Valencia variety of peanuts was used on this project..
Cultivation of the area one month after planting was done to control weeds. The plants were harvested when they showed signs of maturity, manifested by the presence of brown spots on the leaves.
Peanuts were harvested by means of hand pulling. Harvesting was done on January 6, 1987. Peanut seeds were marketed on January 28 at Mendez, Cavite and the farmer earned an income of P810.00.
