Abstract: BONTOG, NOLIBE,LLE C. Social Competence of International Students in Adventist University of the Philippines. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in European Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Nelia E. Feranil The study was conducted to deter-nine the demographic characteristics of the international students in Adventist University of the Philippines, determine their level of social competence, determine if demographic profile is significantly related to social competence, and determine if social competence is significantly related to academic performance. Descriptive correlation method of research was used to analyze the relationship of the variables. A total of 123 international students participated in the study. More than half of the participants were male, age ranging from 20 to 24 and were Asians, taking health related course. Majority of the participants were seventh day adventist and stayed in the Philippines for 37 to 54 months. The participants had "high" level of social competence as revealed by the total mean score 266.59 obtained from ail the statements. The hypothesis that the demographic characteristics of the participants are not significant with their level of social competence was partly rejected. The result showed that only monthly allowance of the participants was related to their level of social competence. On the other hand, age, sex, nationality, field of study, religion, scholarship and length of stay in the Philippines showed no relationship with the level of social competence.Social competence and academic performance had no significant relationship. The level of social competence does not affect the academic performance of the international students in Adventist University of the Philippines.
