Abstract: VICEDO, LAUREANA VERONIKA S. and VIDALLO, RAISA N. Utilization and Effectiveness of Gumamela Plant in the Production of Dishwashing Liquid. Research Study. (General Science Curriculum). Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, March 2010. Adviser: Mrs. Ma. Corazon Herrera. The study entitled "Utilization and Effectiveness of Gumamela Plant in the Production of Dishwashing Liquid" was conducted St. Joseph Homes, Brgy. Inocencio, Trece Martires City, Cavite from October 2009 to March 2010. Generally, the study aimed to utilize the gumamela plant parts in making dishwashing liquid and to determine the effectiveness of the produced dishwashing liquid. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the physical characteristics, the color, consistency, lather, odor, and mildness to hands, of the produced dishwashing liquid made out of gumamela plant parts: stern, leaves, and flowers; the best treatment in terms of the physical characteristics; and the effectiveness of the best treatment of dishwashing liquid from gumamela plant parts when used to the following: glass wares, aluminium wares, plastic wares and china wares. The treatments were as follows: Treatment 1 (Gumamela stem extract); Treatment 2 (Gumamela leaves extract); and Treatment 3 (Gumamela flowers extract). 30 respondents were selected for the evaluation of the physical characteristics and for the determination of the best treatment using the random sampling. 15 respondents were purposively selected for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the best treatment. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) for significant results were used to analyze the gathered data in this study. The results revealed that dishwashing liquid could be made out of Gumamela stem, leaves and flowers. Treatment 1 and Treatment 2 were considered the best treatments_ The result of the physical evaluation have shown that the consistency of the produced dishwashing liquid was the only attribute that significantly differ Treatment 1 from Treatment 2. The other attributes, in terms of lather and mildness to hands, have shown significant difference between treatments 1 and 2. On the other hand, in terms of color and odor, results have shown no significant differences among treatments. Treatment 1, the dishwashing liquid made from Gumamela stem, was rated the best treatment since it was higher in terms of consistency than that of treatment 2.
