Abstract: DE LA PAZ, JOHN PAUL A. and MOJICA, CHARLDRIN T. Proposed Design of Materials Recovery Facility in Cavite State University-Main Campus At Indang, Cavite. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Cavite State University Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr. The study entitled “Proposed Design of Materials Recovery Facility in Cavite State University-Main Campus at Indang, Cavite” was conducted at Cavite State University -main campus from October 2016 to April 2017 under the supervision of Engr. Marcelino A. Dagasdas Jr. The study aimed to provide a design of Materials Recovery Facility in Cavite State University-Main Campus at Indang, Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to provide a flow chart of waste materials in the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), to provide architectural plan, structural plan, and details for proposed design project, to provide equitable design of facilities for sorting, and recycling of waste materials, to design a two-storey building consist of offices and storage facility, to provide electrical and plumbing lay-out of the facilities, to provide a cost estimate excluding the electrical and plumbing costs, and to produce a tarpaulin print out of perspective view of the proposed design of Materials Recovery Facility in Cavite State University-Main Campus at Indang, Cavite. The lot allotted for the development plan has an area of 3,469 m’, the lot for the Materials Recovery Facility has an area of 165 m2? and the administration building has an area of 204 m’. It is located at Saka road near the National Coffee Research Development and Extension Center (NCRDEC). The study provided the architectural and structural plan of the proposed building including electrical and plumbing layout. The analysis of the individual structural member was obtained using Structural Aided Analysis and Design (STAAD) software. The structural design of the building was done in conformance with the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2010), and ACI Code standards. The facility has a capacity of 29,250 kgs. for recyclables, 15,000 kg. For biodegradables, and 6,750 kgs. for residuals. The project cost was found by the authors to be P 1,156,638.31 for Materials Recovery Facility, P 553,655.62 for concrete pavement, and P 3,569,054.74 for the Administration Building. The total project cost of P5,279,348.67 excluding electrical, and plumbing works. From the design computations and analysis, it can be concluded that all the designed sections and materials used were safe and economical. Based from the results acquired from this project, the authors recommend the following in order for this design to be used for the future references: (1) computations of electrical and plumbing layout and also septic tank design must be considered; (2) it is also recommended that other facilities should be provided with its plans for proper implementation of the project; (3) landscaping, and slope should be investigated considering the proper design criteria for the development of materials recovery facility; and (4) further study should be conducted utilizing electronically and computerized system of segregation of waste materials.
