DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF HEART RATE MONITOR WITH PULSE OXIMETER. Undergraduate Design Project. Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Engr. Edwin R. Arboleda.
The design project was conducted from October 2011 to March 2013. The objective of the study was to design and develop a heart rate monitor with pulse oximeter that can measure a person's heart rate and oxygen saturation of the blood. The device consisted of two major parts, the pulse oximeter probe and the circuit containing the MCU. Sensor probe plays a vital role in the device determining and detecting the signal from the user's finger, while the circuit containing the MCU calculates the signal coming from the probe and analyzing it to obtain and give the results through the display. The designers programmed the MCU MC56F8006VWL from Freescale MC56F8006 series in the C using the CodeWarrior IDE. The design project was evaluated for accuracy at the Operating Room and Intensive Care Unit of General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital. The device response test on different physical working condition was done at Cavite State University Oval. User acceptance test was done at the lobby of Engineering Science Building and Information Technology Building respectively. The results of the evaluations proved that the device was accurate and user-friendly.
