Abstract: MANDANAS, MYRNALYN C., "HEMATOLOGICAL VALUES AND HISTOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION OF BLOOD FROM APPARENTLY HEALTHY CAPTIVE COMMON PALM CIVET (Paradoxurus herrnaproditus) IN CAVITE CITY ZOO." Undergraduate Thesis, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2007. Adviser: Eugene Principe DVM, MS. A study was conducted to characterize the hematological values and histologically describe the blood from five apparently healthy captive common palm civet. The mean hematological values observed were as follows: RBC = 8.73 X106/uL; PCV = 39.93 %; WBC = 2.88 X103/uL; Hb = 13.31 Mil; MCV = 45.52 fl; MCH = 15.17 pg; and MCHC = 33.33 %. In the differential leukocyte count, it was observed that the predominant cell in the common palm civet was neutrophils followed by lymphocytes, and eosinophils. Monocyte and basophils were the least encountered cell. The mean leukocyte values observed in the common palm civet were as follows: neutrophil = 56.40, lymphocyte = 40.67, eosinophil = 2.00, monocyte = 0.93 and basophil = 0.47 respectively. Serological values observed were as follows: BUN = 35.96 mg/dL, creatinine = 0.71 mg/dL, SALT = 113.95 U/L; and SAST = 267.42 U/L.
