Bachelor of Science in International Studies major in European Studies. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Dr. Marietta C. Mojica. The study was conducted to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the international students of Cavite State University; identify the traits and other characteristics a leader should possess as perceived by the international students; determine the preferred leadership style of the participants; and determine the significant difference on perception of leadership styles between the participants coming from the two regions. The participants came from two different regions: Africa and Asia-Pacific. Those who came from Africa are specifically from Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, and Rwanda while those from Asia-Pacific are specifically from Vanuatu, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, and Korea. Most of the participants are aged 23-27 years old. There were more males than females and most of the participants were on their first year and fourth year in college. Most of the participants have been staying in the Philippines from 2-3 years. The non-members of organizations were larger than those who said that they were members. Among the fourteen leadership traits, trustworthy, self-confident, and friendly are the top three selected by the participants. When the responses were grouped into their sources by region, data revealed that participants from African region selected self-confident as the primary trait that a leader should possess while Asia-Pacific's participants selected persistent, which ranked fourth among African participants. On the other hand, the first choice (self-confident) of African students was ranked fifth among the Asian-Pacific participants. Being trustworthy and friendly equally ranked as the second choice for trait a leader should possess among Asian-Pacific participants. Similarly, being trustworthy was also the second choice among the participants from the African Region. For the personal characteristics a leader must possess, the top three selected were age, sex and religion. Good manners, presentability and politeness, and the ability to bring about trust and affection are the top three most choses external characteristics of a leader. On leadership skills, organizational skills, ability to unite and lead the people, and education were the top three most skills desired by the participants for a leader. For professional quality, the ability to speak in public, knowledge of the law, and high intelligence were chosen. Lastly, for the moral and ethical characteristics, the top three selected were honesty, responsibility, and fairness. For the overall ranking, the participants gave more importance to leadership skill, followed by professional qualities and the third was moral and ethical characteristics, and the fourth was leadership traits. The fifth and sixth considerations were personal characteristics and external characteristics, respectively. The most preferred leadership style of the participants is democratic. There is significant difference between the preferred leadership styles and the participants' country of origin or nationality.
