Abstract: JURADO, LEZIDIN NOLASCO, MAYUGA, GREGORIO OBRADOR, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, February 2001, "Design and Development of an Identification Card Reader for PC- Based Faculty and Staff Monitoring System" Adviser: Poinsettia A. Vida The Design and Development of an Identification Card Reader for PC- Based Faculty and Staff Monitoring System was constructed in Pajo, Alfonso, Cavite. It was tested and evaluated at the Faculty Room, College of Engineering, Cavite State University. The design consisted of three circuits: the card reader circuit which was desiY1ed to read the barcode at the back of the D card of the faculty and staff; the decoder which was designed to decode the barcode that was read by the card reader; and the designed interface card that provides direct access to internal PC bus and serves as the communication link between the computer and the hardware. With the use of the interface card, the function of the software and hardware was successfully tested. In testing the performance of the diesel, the prototype D card was swipe to the card reader that served as the code in monitoring the faculty and staff. The result of the design showed that the system was more efficient and faster way than the billboard faculty and staff monitoring system. It was recommended that the College of Engineering should be connected by network computers.
