Abstract: GIRAY, DONNA E. The College Placement Examination and Academic Performance of Graduates at the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2013. Adviser: Cecilia B. Banaag, PhD The study aimed to predict the academic performance of students at the College of Economics, Management, and Development Studies using their performance scores in the CvSU college placement examination. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) determine the performance of CEMDS students in the CvSU college placement examination on the following areas: (a) verbal ability, (b) mathematical ability and (c) over-all performance; (2) determine the academic performance of CEMDS students in the following areas: (a) English, (b) Mathematics and (c) GPA; (3) identify the relationship between the following variables: (a) CvSU college placement performance and English performance, (b) CvSU college placement performance and Mathematics performance and (c) CvSU college placement performance and GPA; and (4) determine the predictors of the academic performance in the following areas: (a) English, (b) Mathematics and (c) over-all academic performance. The study used the descriptive-correlational research design. The 65 graduates of the College of Economics, Management and Development Studies (CEMDS), batch 2011 and 2012 who took the non-licensure courses were participants of this study. Data needed for the study were gathered from the Testing and Admissions Office of the Office of Student Affairs and from the University Registrar. Mean standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression were used as statistical tools. Results revealed that the verbal ability, mathematical ability, and over-all performance in the CvSU college placement examination were found to have a negative significant relationship with the criterion variables namely: performance in English and Mathematics and over-all academic performance. Nonetheless, the over-all performance in the placement examination was found to be the best predictor of English performance while Mathematical ability performance was found to be the best predictor of academic performance in Mathematics and over-all academic performance.
