Abstract: FERANIL, PATRICIA MAE C. Assessment of the Operation and Management of Slaughterhouses Wastewater Treatment Plant of Selected Local Government Units in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. May 2017. Adviser: Dr. David L. Cero. The study was conducted from October 2016 to May 2017 to assess the operation and management of slaughterhouses wastewater treatment plant of the slaughterhouses of selected local government units in Cavite. Specifically, the study aimed to: 1) determine the extent of compliance of the slaughterhouses of Dasmarinas City and Trece Martires City to the functional requirements of PAES 411 and NMIS; 2) determine the design, layout, system operation, and maintenance of the slaughterhouse wastewater treatment plant; and 3) assess the physical, chemical, and microbiological characteristics of their effluent discharges with the applicable effluent standard. Ocular field visit and interview was conducted to gather general information about the slaughterhouses. The extent of compliance in terms of functional requirements was compared with the standards in PAES 411 and with other references relevant to the slaughterhouse operation and waste management as prescribed by National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS). The slaughterhouses' wastewater treatment plants were assessed and analyzed according to specific effluent treatment operation. The physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of the effluent discharge were analyzed. In terms functional requirements, Dasmarinas City and Trece Martires City slaughterhouses obtained a level of compliance of 100 percent and 64.74 percent, respectively. Wastewater treatment plant used by Dasmarinas City slaughterhouse is a sewage treatment plant (STP) designed by Brahms Corporation while Trece Martires City slaughterhouses uses a lagoon type wastewater treatment facility. Effluent from the selected slaughterhouses’ wastewater treatment plants did not meet the standards set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Among the seven parameters tested, only the value of total suspended solids and pH level passed the standards.
