Abstract: CHEENEE E. RIVERA, ARIANNE T. GUERRA. Information and Communication Technology Devices and the Academic Performance of Students in Cavite State University Science High School. Research Study (General Science Curriculum.) Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, lndang, Cavite, March 2010. Adviser: Mr. Simeon E.. Daez. The study was conducted in Cavite State University Science High School from November 2009 to January 2010 in order to determine the relationship of information and communication technology devices and the academic performance of the respondents. Specifically, it aimed to 1) determine the common technology devices used by the respondents; 2) determine the extent of use of information technology devices by the respondents; 3) determine the academic performance of the respondents equipped with information technology devices; and 4) determine if there is significant relationship between the extent of use of information technology devices and the academic performance of the students. The study used a correlation design that determined the impact of the information and communication technology devices to the academic performance of the high school students. The study used 146 respondents, consisting of 51 second year, 58 third year and 37 fourth year high school students. A self made survey questionnaire was used to determine the relationship between the extent of use of information technology devices and the academic performance of the students. The results revealed that the most common information and communication technology devices used by the respondents are computer, television and cell phone. Though there are some respondents who used different technology devices often but almost all of the respondents used these devices for sometimes. The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the extent of use of different information technology devices and the academic performance of the respondents. Based on the findings of the study the most common information and communication technology device used by the respondents is the computer followed by the television and then by cell phone. The respondents used different information and communication technology devices only for sometimes in whatever purposes it served them. The results revealed that the over all academic performance level of the respondents is average. Although most of the students' academic performance level is high, 16.44 % of the total respondents performed low academically. The extent of use of different information and communication technology devices has no significant relationship with the academic performance level of the respondents. It was recommended that further study on the effects of computers and cell phones on the academic performance of the students should be conducted since these devices are very common today and we are in the so-called information age now. Behavioral aspects of the respondents with respect to their social relationships with parents and peers should also be considered in conducting further study. It was also recommended that gathering of data should not be in interview form only. It would be better if actual observation could be made to make the study more reliable. It was suggested because some respondents may not answer the questions accurately and precisely.
