Abstract: CALINAWAN, MARRIONE LOIS L., PENALBA, ADRIANNE AMREE M. and RODEO, STELLA MARIE F. Production of Soap from Macapuno(Cocosnucifera).Research Study.Science High School, College of Education, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite.April 2013. Adviser: Prof. Agnes Alimboyoguen. The study was conducted at the Research Center, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. It aimed to produce soap from macapno. Specifically, it aimed to: 1.determine the sensory properties of each treatment ofmacapuno soap;2. determine which formulation of soap from macapuno will produce the best quality; and3 determine the level of acceptability of macapuno soap to different medical experts. In this study, three treatments such T1(7.5 mL macapuno endosperm + additives), T (15 mL macapuno endosperm + additives) and 13 (30mL macapuno endosperm + additives) were subjected to sensory evaluation by 50 laboratory students in terms of fragrance, texture, cleansing action and general acceptability. Then, the best treatment was characterized by the medical experts composed of three medical technologists and seven nurses to confirm the result obtained from the evaluation of laboratory students and quality of the product. The results showed that of the three treatments or formulations, T1 is the best treatment in terms of fragrance and texture whereas 12 is the best treatment in terms of cleansing action and general acceptability. These results suggested that T2 is the best formulation in producing macapuno soap as perceived by the laboratory students. However, when T2 was evaluated by medical experts it revealed discouraging results; T2 was not effective in terms of cleansing action and was evaluated as unacceptable. These results revealed that T-) which was chosen and considered as the best formulation among the three treatments by the laboratory students did not pass the standards by medical experts. The results of this evaluation as perceived by the student and medical experts would just only indicate that the formulations must still be developed by using different amounts of macapuno endosperm that would stabilize the correct volume and kind of additives.
