A study on the effect of different rates of complete fertilizer and population density on growth and yield of mungbean was conducted at the experimental field of the Don Severino Agricultural College, Indang, Cavite from July to October 19890 Four rates of complete fertilizer that served as the main plots were: control (FRo)' 100 kilograms per hectare (FR1), 200 kilograms per hectare (FR2), and 300 kilograms per hectare (FR). The four population densities tested were, 100,000 plants per hectare (PD1) 200,000 plants per hectare (PD2), 300,000 plants per hectare (PD3), and 1100,000 plants per hectare (PD4) which served as the sub-plot. The treatments were arranged at random with three replications following the split plot design. Result showed that height of the plant was only affected by population density but not by fertilizer rates at different stages of mungbean growth. Dry matter content of the leaves, stems and total dry matter (TDM) at different stages of growth was affected by population density. The effect of fertilizer rates on these plant characters were only observed at maturity. The fertilizer rates significantly affected pod number, pod dry mass, seed number, dry weight of 100 seeds and harvest index. The effect of fertilizer rate on seed number per plant and shelling percentage was not significant. Population density, on the other hand, significantly affected yield component except shelling percentage. Pod number per plant, seed number per plant, pod dry mass per square meter, seed number per square meter, shelling percentage and harvest index were not significantly affected by both fertilizer rate and population density.
