FERMA, REGINE ANN D. and SUMAGAYSAY, DAZZLE A. Status of Living of Internal Migrants in Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Economics major in Development Econolnics. Cavite State University. Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Ms. Ma. Soledad M. Lising.
The study was conducted to determine the current status of living of internal migrants in Cavite after migration. Specifically, it aimed to: describe the sociodemographic characteristics of the internal migrants in Cavite, describe the sociodemographic characteristics of the household of internal migrants in Cavite, determine the standard of living of internal migrants, determine the perceived positive and negative effects of migration to the standard of living of internal migrants, determine the problems encountered by the internal migrants after migration, and determine the gender role differentiation among households of internal migrants.
The study utilized the descriptive method through the use of interview schedule as the main instrument in gathering the necessary data. Some parts of the interview schedule were adapted and modified from a related study on the standard of living of Salazar(2014) and Jolly and Reeves (2005) on their research regarding gender and migration. The study had a total of 240 participants — 40 from Rosario, Cavite and 200 from Trece Martires City, Cavite. According to Giron (2014), under the leadership of Mayor Jose "Nonong" Ricafrente Jr., the municipality of Rosario was the only municipality outside the Visayan region that adopted and continued to support "Yolanda" survivors refugees. In the same way, Department of Interior and Local Government —National CapitalRegion and National Housing Authority- Cavite, identified Golden Horizons, BarangayHugo Perez as one of the relocation sites for informal settler families that used to live in dangerous areas along the eight waterways within the National Capital Region.
Based on the results of the study, internal migration improved the panicipants' status of living from Rosario while for the participants from Trece Martires City considered migration as a barrier for them to attain an improved status of living.
