Abstract: LUTERO, NELVIN E. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. March 2000. "Verticulture of Lettuce (Lactuca sativa Linn) Using Horizontal Bamboo Pollulators". Adviser: Dr. Adolfo C. Manuel Jr. A verticulture container model using bamboo pollulators was designed, fabricated and grown to heading lettuce at CvSU SAKA Project from January to March 1999. Six bamboo pollulators were used, each measuring 6 ft. long. They were assembled in a horizontal fence type verticulture container model. Twenty perforations measuring 3 cm in diameter and 12 cm apart were made for each pollulator. The inner part of the bamboo pole was removed with the use of iron steel. Each pollulator was then filled up with sterilized media consisting of equal parts of garden soil, compost and black river sand. Lettuce seedlings were transplanted in a pollulator through its perforations. Proper management of lettuce was observed. After 60 days, a total of 34.4 kg of lettuce heads was harvested. The total expenses for the fabrication of the model and the production cost was P 1,945.00. A total sale of P 2,064.00 was realized and a net profit of P 119.00 was obtained from the first harvest.
