Abstract: COLADA, JOANIKKA MAE C, The Impact of the Suspension of Sangguniang Kabataan in the Barangay Level: Continuation or Fall of Youth Political Participation on Selected Barangays in Trece Martires City. Undergraduate Thesis, Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite, April 2016. Adiser: Mr. Aldrin P. Baes. The study aimed to: determine the policy adjustments made by the Sangguniang Barangay regarding the policies on political participation of the youth since the nation- wide suspension of SK; know the views of the youth towards the policy adjustments of the Sangguniang Barangay in maintaining and improving the political participation of the youth; determine the observations of the barangay officials towards the political participation of the youth since the suspension of SK; assess what extent the youth were able to participate on political events and plans within their community after the suspension of SK; find out the impacts of the policy adjustments of the Sangguniang Barangay in the development of the community; and determine the stand of the barangay officials and youth on the threat of abolishing the SK. The participants of the study were five barangay officials and 50 youths in the selected communities of Trece Martires City, namely: Cabezas, Cabuco, Luciano, Osorio and San Agustin. Descriptive-Narrative design was used in this study to determine the alternative plans and programs of the Sangguniang Barangay regarding the suspension of the SK and to know the current status of the youth’s political participation for the selected communities. Results showed that there were minimal institutional/policy adjustments that had been made by the five communities after the suspension of SK. Majority of the youth respondents were not satisfied with the effort of the Sangguniang Barangay in including them in community and political activities. After the suspension, most of the communities still accept projects proposals from the youth yet all planning and evaluation were made by the Sangguniang Barangay. Some of the communities only involved the youth on project execution but not with the project planning and evaluation. Furthermore, the institutional/policy adjustments that had been made after the suspension did not cause any changes that improved the participation and involvement of the youths in any community and political matters, events and issues. It also revealed that most of the respondents, both the officials and the youth, were against abolishing SK. However, some of them were seeking for reform on some provisions including the age preference and budget handling.
