Abstract: SILAN, KRISTINE R., Personality Type and Self-esteem of Selected College Students with Suicidal Ideation at Cavite State University, Academic Year 2009-2010. Descriptive-Correlational study. Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. February 2010. Adviser: Ms. Joy G. Novero This study sought to determine the personality type and self-esteem of selected ege students with suicidal ideation at Cavite State University, Academic Year 2009-2010. Selected students were given Self-esteem Inventory that was modified and validated, a Personality Mosaic Test lifted from the study of Realyn Pimentel, a former student of Cavite State University, to determine their type of personality in terms of being Realistic, Investigative, Social, Artistic, Enterprising and Conventional. They were also given a Suicidal Potential Inventory for Filipinos (SPIF), a locally published standardized assessment tool for suicide, developed by Dr. Susan Estanislao, the guidance counselor of De-la Salle University, Manila. Specifically, it aimed to answer the following questions: (1) What is the profile of the respondents in terms of (a) age; (b) gender; (c) course; and, (d) year level; (2) What type of personality do the respondents have in terms of (a) artistic personality; (b) conventional personality; (c) enterprising personality; (d) investigative personality; (e) realistic personality; and (f) social personality; (3) What is the level of self-esteem of the respondents; (4) what is the level of suicidal ideation; (5) is there a significant relationship between personality type and suicidal ideation of the respondents; and (6) is there a significant relationship between self-esteem and suicidal ideation of the respondents. This study is composed of 87 respondents drawn from purposive sampling procedure. Chi-square and Spearman raw formula were used for the computation of relationship of personality type and self-esteem to the suicidal ideation of the respondents. Based on the result of the study, it was found out that personality type and self-esteem no significant relationship to suicidal ideation of the respondents. This study of the relationship of personality type and self-esteem to suicidal ideation would not only help the researcher but also to the teachers, guidance counselors of the goal students, parents of the students, and also future researchers on the basis of the data and information resulting from the study.
