The study was conducted to determine the influence of financial socialization on financial stress of foreign students in Cavite State University (CvSU) — Main Campus. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the socio—demographic profile of foreign students in Cavite State University (CvSU) — Main Campus in terms of age, sex, nationality, monthly allowance and length of stay in CvSU — Main Campus; determine the level of financial socialization of foreign students as influenced by parents, peers and formal financial education; determine the level of financial stress of foreign students; determine the influence of financial socialization on the level of financial stress of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus; determine whether there is a significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and financial socialization of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus in terms of parents, peers and formal financial education; and determine whether there is a significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and financial stress of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus. The study applied a quantitative and correlational research design.
The participants of the study, specifically the 38 foreign students enrolled in CvSU — Main Campus for the first semester of Academic Year 2019 — 2020, were chosen using the purposive and total population sampling technique. Data were collected through survey questionnaire which were distributed personally and some, electronically using google survey forms. Frequency counts, percentages, range and mean on data collected were used to determine and analyze the socio-demographic profile, level of financial socialization with parents, peers and formal financial education and level of financial stress of foreign students. Consequently, Ordinal Logistic Regression (OLS) was used to determine the significant influence between the participants' financial socialization and financial stress. Moreover, Spearman's Rank Correlation was used to determine if there is a significant relationship between the socio-demographic profile and the variables - financial socialization in terms of parents, peers and formal financial education as well as financial stress of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus. Results indicated that foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus have high financial socialization with their parents who were further deemed to be the most influential financial socialization agent. Similarly, as influenced by peers, the participants were found to have high financial socialization, thus peers were also considered to be influential. Meanwhile, the participants were found to have an average financial socialization as influenced by formal financial education, which was then considered to be somewhat influential and is deemed to be the least influential among the three agents of financial socialization. Generally, the foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus have high financial socialization. Furthermore, results revealed that the participants, specifically the foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus have low level of financial stress. According to the result of the study, financial socialization, in general, has no significant influence on the financial stress of foreign students. However, significant influence was found between the financial socialization with peers and the financial stress of foreign students. Moreover, it was determined that there is a significant relationship between length of stay in CvSU — Main Campus and financial socialization of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus in terms of peers, formal financial education and overall financial socialization. Furthermore, it was revealed that there is a significant relationship between monthly allowance and financial stress of foreign students in CvSU — Main Campus
