This study was conducted to determine the level of competency of the third year nursing students in formulating a nursing care plan. The competency was based on the knowledge, attitudes and skills of the respondents. It specifically aimed to identify the level of competency of the third year Nursing students in the Knowledge, Skills and Attitude and determine the relationship between the respondents knowledge, skills and attitude and their RLE grades in formulating Nursing Care Plan Questionnaire, frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation and percentage method were used in the study. One hundred twenty three (123) third year Nursing students of Cavite State University were the respondents. The study was conducted from April 2007 to March 2008. Majority of the third year nursing students in Cavite State University both in cognitive and skill factors have satisfactory performance and have a good attitude towards patients. Knowledge, skills and attitudes of the respondents do not affect their performance in RLE. Lastly, there is no significant relationship between Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes in formulating Nursing Care Plan and the students’ RLE grades.

This study was conducted to determine the level of competency of the third year nursing students in formulating a nursing care plan.
