Abstract: CAMERINO, AGNES M., LABOLERA, BERNADETTE C., and RAQUINO, BEVERLY JADE A. Quality of Life of Early Retirees Among Professional Nurses In Selected Areas of Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014 Adviser: Prof. Evelyn M. Del Mundo, RN, MAN, Ph.D The study was conducted to determine the quality of life of early retirees among professional nurses in selected areas of Cavite. Specifically, it aimed to: determine the socio-demographic profile of the participants in terms of age, sex, civil status, monthly income, sources of income, present employment status, number of months/years left before retiring, and type of household: determine the quality of life in terms of self-determination, social inclusion, material well-being, personal development, emotional well-being, interpersonal relations, human rights, and physical well-being; and determine the relationship of socio-demographic profile and the quality of life of early retirees among professional nurses. The study was conducted from September 2013 to March 2014 in selected areas of Cavite. Moreover, the study utilized purposive sampling, a well-defined set that meets very specific criteria. Selected places were chosen through randomization technique. The hospitals were also chosen based on the following criteria: long-established hospitals, convenient for the researchers, location, and proximity. Selection of the subjects was based on the following criteria: early retiree professional nurses under the age bracket of 40- 65 years of age or who were planning to retire although not yet included in the ideal retiring age of 55- 65 years old; must be Registered Nurses who had practiced their profession; and currently residing within the vicinity of Cavite. The data was gathered using self- formulated questionnaires based on the study of Robertson (2008). Based on the findings, it was found out that there is no significant relationship between socio-demographic profile and sub-aspects of the quality of life of early retirees among professional nurses. It may imply that age, gender, civil status, monthly family income, sources of income, present employment status, number of years before retirement, and type of household may not affect the self-determination, social inclusion, material well-being, personal development, emotional well-being, interpersonal relations, human rights, and physical well-being of early retirees among professional nurses. Therefore, it is recommended that early retirees among professional nurses should be prepared for the changes that might occur to their new stage of life, the retirement phase, resulting in deeper understanding to cope with different changes brought about by retirement. Self awareness programs may be helpful in coping with different changes brought about by retirement.
