Abstract: TIANIA, MARY LOVELY CONSTANTE, “Labor Migration of Women OFWs from CALABARZON”: UndergraduateThesis: Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April, 2009. Adviser: Ms. Maria Soledad M. Lising. The study was conducted to look at the status of women OFWs from CALABARZON for the period of 1997 to 2007. It was undertaken to describe the demographic profile the rate of migration, the major occupation, the major areas of destination, the social protective measures being given by the government and are availed by the OF Ws, and their contributions in terms of percentage share in dollar remittances. The study was based on secondary data collected from respectable government agencies such as the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), National Statistics Office (NSO), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Overseas Worker Welfare Administration (OWWA), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), and National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). Write ups from other theses, articles and journals from credible sources were also used. The analyses of data were done using the following tools: trend analysis, percentages, linear regression and rate of migration formula. Generally, the demographic profile of women OFWs showed that the population of women OFWs had the highest decline in 1998 during the Asian financial crisis, recording only around 56,000 women OF Ws while in 2004 it had the highest growth rate of 46.15 percent or around 95,000 women OF Ws. The study also found that most of the women OFWs from Southern Tagalog were found within the age group of 25 to 29, the same age group with the highest percentage of college degree holders. In 2007, the highest rate of migration for both Southern Tagalog and CALABARZON were noted with percentage shares of 5.77 and 6.23, respectively. The major occupation of women OFWs from Southern Tagalog were in line with service and sales related works and were mostly found in Asian countries specifically Hong Kong. Women OFWs with cases filed at OWWA were from Laguna and were mostly married. The highest decline in the remittances was in 1998 while the highest was in 2004. Based on the statistical test done, the GRDPs of CALABARZON were not affected by the remittances of women OFWs from CALABARZON while the total remittances of OFWs from Southern Tagalog and from the Philippines were affected by the remittances of women OFWs from CALABARZON.
