Abstract: BENESEN, MARIJOLL C. Self- Concept and Level of Attachment to Parents and Peers of Fourth Year High School Students in Public and Private Schools in Naic, Cavite. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Cavite State University. April 2011. Thesis Adviser: Ms. Louziela P. Masana. The study was designed to determine the relationship between the level of self-concept and level of attachment to parents and peers of fourth year high school students in public and private schools in Naic, Cavite. Specifically, this study aimed to determine: (1) the level of self-concept of the selected fourth year students in public and private high school in terms of self -criticism, emotionality, goal directedness, accepting attitude, family relations, peer relations, identity, self- feeling, personal worth and self-confidence; (2) the level of attachment to parents and peers of the respondents from public and private high school in terms of trust, communication and alienation; (3) if there is a significant difference on the level of attachment to parents of public and private schools; (4) if there is a significant difference on the level of attachment to peers of public and private schools; and (5) if there is a significant relationship between self-concept and level of attachment to parents and peers of public and private schools. The study was conducted from December 2010 to January 2011. The study used the descriptive correlational and comparative method. Stratified random sampling was used and 285 fourth year high school students served as respondents of the study. The instruments used by the researcher were the adopted version of Pasao's Self Concept Rating Scale to determine the level of respondent's self -concept and Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment, which was used to determine the level of attachment of the students. In analyzing the data, the researcher used statistical tools such as frequency, percentage, Mann Whitney Z- Test, and Spearman Rank Correlations. Results revealed that the self-concept of the students in public and private schools is within the above average level which indicates that most respondents have a positive self-concept in terms of each area but sometimes they have tendencies to experience negative feelings about themselves. Whereas, the attachment of the students in public and private schools has an average level to parents and peers. This indicates that the respondents have an equal security in relationship with their parents and peers. However, there is no significant difference between attachment to parents and peers of public and private school respondents. Based on the results, it was revealed that there is a significant relationship between self-concept and attachment to parents and peers of the respondents.
