Abstract: SANTOS, JENNELYN C. Play, Creative Arts, and Skills Development of Kindergarten Pupils in Selected Public Elementary Schools in District Il of General Trias, Cavite. Master's Thesis. Master of Arts in Educational Management, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. October 2014. Adviser: Dr. Liza C. Costa The study was conducted in March 2014 in selected public elementary schools in District Il of General Trias, Cavite, to determine the play, creative arts, and skills development of the kindergarten pupils. Specifically, this study aimed to: 1. determine the play activities employed by the kindergarten teachers; 2. determine the creative arts employed by the kindergarten teachers; 3. describe the behavior of the pupils during play activities; 4. describe the behavior of the pupils during arts activities; 5. determine the skills development of kindergarten pupils; 6. determine if there is significant relationship between the play activities employed by the teachers and the level of skills development; 7. determine if there insignificant relationship between the creative arts activities employed by the teachers and the level of skills development. There were three selected elementary public schools namely: Sunny Brooke Elementary School, Tropical Village Elementary School, and Navarro Elementary School. There were 205 participants who took the test ages 4, 5 and 6 years old. Both male and female pupils were the participants. There were 10 teachers who participated in the study. The study used descriptive-correlation research method to describe the play and creative arts activities employed by kindergarten teachers, as well as the level of skills development of pupils and to determine the significant relationship between the play activities employed by the teachers and pupils' skills development and the significant relationship between the creative arts activities employed by the teachers and the pupils' skills development. The statistical measurements that were used in analyzing the data that were gathered are frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Spearman Rank Correlational Coefficient. Results revealed that all the play activities such as action song, sand play, What's That Smell, stacking and nesting, body parts song, dress up, hiding places, Simon says, action games, walk and stop and role play, were highly utilized by the teachers except for "dress up". Creative arts activities such as drawing/sketching, scribbling/doodling anything on their paper, coloring (with crayons, color pencils, marking pens, watercolor), painting with brush, finger/hand painting, cutting and pasting colored papers, decorating or using with recycled stuff, chalk art, body tracing (tracing different body parts on paper), fashioning/molding clay, collage-making, making paper mache, diorama making, cooking, and block building are also interpreted high. This means that the kindergarten teachers regularly utilize creative arts activities in the classroom. Most undesirable behaviors displayed during play activities fall under a few instances to never in occurrence. Three negative behaviors, however, show enough frequency that teachers need to address them to harmoniously continue with the play activities. These disruptive behaviors are (1) excessive talking during play activities, (2) being inattentive of classroom instructions and activities, and (3) grabbing things from seatmates and classmates. These three behaviors seem to be occurring all at the same time every time play activity occurs.
