Abstract: SEO HYANG SOOK. Instructional and Research Productivity of Selected Faculty Members in the Philippines and South Korea. Master's Thesis. Master of Arts in Education. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2015. Adviser: Dr. Rhodora S. Crizaldo. This study is descriptive-comparative research focusing on three main variables which are: socio-demographic profile, instructional productivity, and research productivity. Two groups of participants were purposively chosen for this study but individual participants for each group had been randomly selected. Faculty members from two higher education institutions in the Philippines and South Korea were compared for their socio-demographic profile, instructional productivity, and research productivity. The study also explored the comparison and relationship among these three variables. Socio-demographic profile of the two groups of participants were described in terms of their: age; sex; civil status; highest educational attainment; length of service; status of appointment; academic rank; teaching workload; and research workload. Instructional productivity had 7 categories composed of a total of 12 indicators. Also, research productivity had 7 categories but with a total of 14 indicators. Means, standard deviations, frequencies and percentages were utilized in describing these three main variables along with their components. Chi-Square Test was applied in comparing the two groups of participants in terms of these three variables. In terms of socio-demographic profile, results revealed that in general, Filipino participants were younger than South Korean participants as indicated by their mean ages of 33 years and 47 years respectively. In terms of sex, there were more Filipino female participants while there were more South Korean male participants. As for civil status, majority of Filipino participants were single while majority of South Korean participants were married. As for the highest educational attainment, all of the South Korean participants had pursued and/or finished graduate studies while only more than half of Filipino participants had pursued and/or finished graduate studies. In terms of length of service, generally the Filipino participants had served shorter that than South Korean participants as indicated by their mean length of service of 7 years and I l years respectively. Majority of Filipino participants had contractual status of appointment while majority of South Korean participants had permanent status of appointment. Also, 79 percent of Filipino participants were in instructor rank while only 20 percent of South Korean participants had this academic rank. Filipino participants had more teaching workloads than South Korean participants as indicated by their mean teaching workloads of 26.91 hours and 17.17 hours, respectively. However, Filipino participants had lesser research workload than South Korean participants as indicated by their mean research workload of I .77 hours and 8.50, hours respectively. As for the instructional productivity of the participants, both groups of participants had shown productivity but most of the times, there were more South Korean participants who had produced more.
