Abstract: BANUA, JOSE ERICK A., BARRION, LORRAISE P., BUDUAN, DYAN GRACE B., DELLORO, KRISTAL GAYLE E., and SO, JERCED MICO M. Perception of Level Three Medical Laboratory Science Students Towards the Academic Motivation Given by Instructors during Online Class. Undergraduate Thesis. Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. June 2022. Adviser: Annie M. Ramos, RN, RMT, MD. This study was conducted to determine the perception of Level III MLS students towards the academic motivation given by the instructors during an online class. Specifically, it aimed to answer the following: 1) determine the number of Level III MLS students who are motivated during online classes intrinsically and extrinsically; 2) determine the number of level III MLS students who are motivated during online classes; 3) determine the intrinsic motivations of Level III MLS students; lastly, 4) determine the extrinsic motivation reinforcements given by the instructors to the students during online classes. A quantitative descriptive research design was utilized in this study. A total of 169 respondents were selected using a simple random sampling technique. A pilot testing was done to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaire before proceeding to the actual data collection. Data was collected using an online survey questionnaire and was distributed among the selected third-year medical technology students at the College of Nursing at Cavite State University-main campus. The respondents rated the academic motivation that was given by instructors. With the use of rubrics, the respondents gave their opinions concerning their motivation as the survey was conducted. Overall, Level III MLS students showed a positive indicator of academic motivation. The majority of them have a high level of intrinsic motivation, and a large percentage of the population showed a high level of extrinsic motivation. Significant findings showed that most of the students (65.70%) have a high level of intrinsic motivation and only 34.30 percent have an average level of intrinsic motivation. Based on their responses, students are able to give their best efforts in every task such as examinations and activities, because they are satisfied whenever they accomplish it on time. There were no students recorded having low levels of intrinsic motivation. In total, all 169 respondents have an average to a high level of intrinsic motivation. This is a positive indicator of academic motivation because highly intrinsically motivated students are able to learn new concepts successfully and show a better understanding of the subject matter. Most of the Level III medical laboratory science students (52.10%) have an average level of extrinsic motivation and 46.70 percent of the students showed a high level of extrinsic motivation. The instructors give extrinsic motivational reinforcement to the Level III MLS students by making tangible rewards, answering students' queries concerning courses such as assignments/activities, connectivity, and grades, and giving consideration over an online free discussion. Only 1.20 percent showed a low level of extrinsic motivation. An average level of extrinsic motivation is also viewed as a positive indicator of academic motivation. The extrinsic motivation reinforcements coming from the instructors may serve to increase academic motivation and learning. Amotivation, which is a condition when individuals are neither intrinsically motivated nor extrinsically motivated, is not present in MLS Level III students. Based on the results of the study, the researchers suggest future studies with the same topic that verify, improve, or invalidate this study.
