Abstract: DELOS REYES, JASMIN D. Backyard Swine Production: An Entrepreneurial Project. Bachelor of Agricultural Entrepreneurship Major in Animal Production, Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2016. Adviser: Dr. Magdalena N. Alcantara. The swine production project was conducted at Brgy. Kayrilaw Nasugbu, Batangas from October 10, 2015 to January 06, 2015. The project aimed to perform the management practices involved in rearing a fattener hogs; apply agribusiness practices in swine production; and earn more profit from a small scale hog fattening project. The swine production project used four weanlings with an average weight of 13.50 kg and weighed 84.50kg in average at the end of the production which was purchased from backyard farm at Brgy. Kayrilaw, Nasugbu, Batangas. The feeds were bought from feeds supply at Brgy. Kayrilaw, Nasugbu, Batangas. They were fed three times a day, at about 6:00 A.M., 12:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M. They were given commercial hog starter pellet during the first one and a half month. After this, the starter pellet was shifted gradually to hog grower pellet. Hog finisher pellet was given to the pigs at the start of ten weeks up to marketing period. Shifting of feeds was done gradually to prevent stress on the part of the animals. The animal had an average daily gain of 0.80kg with a feed efficiency of 2.29. The project involved different operations starting from the preparation of the housing and equipment, purchase of stocks and feeds, feeding, as well as harvesting and marketing. At the end of the raising period, the project incurred a total cost of P 30,010 with the total sales of P 37,240.00. It realized a net income of P 7,410.00 from four hog sold on live weight basis. The return on investment (ROI) was 25.44%The project was profitable and it enabled the student entrepreneur to gain managerial and entrepreneurial skills through actual operation.
