Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2014. Adviser: Dr. Nelia C. Cresino. This study was undertaken to assess the profitability of bamboo hut trading in selected towns of Cavite. Specifically, the study described the socio-economic characteristics of the bamboo hut traders in selected towns of Cavite; described the business characteristics of bamboo hut trading in selected towns of Cavite; described the marketing practices employed by the bamboo hut traders; determined the profitability of bamboo hut trading; and identified the problems encountered by the traders in the operation of bamboo hut enterprise and recommended solutions to the problems encountered in the operation of the said enterprise. Descriptive research design was utilized in this study. The participants were 30 bamboo hut traders operating in selected towns of Cavite. The primary data were collected through interviews with the participants through the aid of an interview schedule. Results showed that traders of bamboo huts in Cavite were mostly middle-aged, married, and completed secondary education. The major source of income of these traders came from bamboo enterprise. The bamboo hut microenterprises in Cavite mostly operated under sole proprietorship form of business ownership. It consisted of few workers mostly less than five including family labor. Most of these enterprises have been new to the sector and operating for at least four years. Only a small capital was needed to start a bamboo hut trading ranging from as low as P2,000 to as high as P100,000. The primary sources of capital of traders to finance their business were from their personal money/savings and from relatives/friends. Traders did not have a secured source of raw bamboo. They sourced their bamboo raw material from community forest or marginal lands. For most traders, the bamboo huts and other products were made and sold from the same venue. | Bamboo hut traders in selected areas of Cavite did not have reliable and distinct promotional strategy. They only displayed some of their products at the site or venue or by the roadside to catch the attention of the people to attract customers and offer discounts to customers as their marketing strategy.
