MOJICA, RICHARD MCJICA, "Samuya Food Manufacturing, Incorporated - Pasay City; Undergraduate Case Study u, B.S. Agribusiness, Don Severino Agricultural College, October 1991. Adviser: Miss Lina C. Abogadie.
A three month field study at Samuya Food Manufactu-ring, Incorporated in 24 51 Lakandula Street, Pasay, Metro Manila from April 15, 1991 to July 9, 1991 was conducted with the following objectives: 1) to enable the student to Apply gained knowledge and skills in agribusiness management to real business situations; 2) to present and analyze the activities of the firm; and 3) to iden-tify the barriers in producing and marketing the firm's products and formulate feasible solutions to these problems.
During the field study period, the author was assigned to different functional areas of the firm and got involved in some management activities. It was observed that most positions in the organiza tional structure of the firm were occupied by single per-son each handling two or more positions like the person-nel and administrative manager and purchasing manager which should be handled by different qualified personnels. The company lacked a timekeeper to do timekeeping functions. As a producer and distributor of processed food pro-ducts, the company experiences a number of constraints in maintaining high quality products. Such problems include the costly imported raw materials and the inefficient quality control of the products. Production activities such as extraction of coco milk can be improved by using electric squeezer machine for the long life quality of the coco jam. The author recommends to revise company's organiza-tional structure, to maximize the utilization of its resources, to resort to vertical integration, and to strengthen its debt-paying ability of its short-run obligations.
