Abstract: The farm practice was conducted in Buna Lejos, Indang, Cavite from August 13, 1990 to December 1, 1990. This aimed to enable the student to gain practical and managerial skills in operating a backyard hog fattening project. Three piglets were used in the project with a total initial weight of 36 kgs and an average weight of 12 kgs. After the 110rday feeding period, the animals attained a total weight of 188.5 kgs or a total gain in weight of 152.5 kgs. with an average initial weight of 62.8 kgs. The total sales of the three hogs at a liveweight basis and sales of 10 empty feed bags amounted to P8,542.50. After deducting the total expenses of P7,114.00, the project gave a net income of P1,428.50. The project was profitable and this enabled the student to learn and gain technical and managerial skills from the actual operation.
