Abstract: MARA, MARYCRIS P. Automatic Appliances Incorporated, Mandaluyong City. Undergraduate Field Study. Bachelor of Science in Business Management, major in Marketing. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2002. Adviser: Mr. Roderick M. Rupido. A field study was conducted to provide experience on how to work as a real employee of the firm, determine the existing management policies and practices being employed by the firm and provide some knowledge beneficial for future employment. The study was conducted at Automatic Appliances Inc., located at 167 EDSA, Mandaluyong City from April to September 2001. The data were gathered through observations, interview with some employees and from company's records and files. The firm has its own recruitment and hiring policies. The selection process is based on the applicant's knowledge, skills and experience in relation to the position he/she is applying for. The firm requires the applicant to undergo interview, testing and physical and medical examinations. The successful applicant is given an employment contract for six months as probationary employee. However, the firm encountered problems including lack of manpower during sales exhibits and relieving other branches. Aside from these, there was also inadequate information on delivery charges resulting to loss of sales and inadequate storage of defective items and shortage of office supplies due to low transfer of stocks in the branch. During the conduct of the study, the student gained additional knowledge about the management. The study also enabled her to learn the use of different office machines and equipment such as fax machine, telephone and computer. Knowledge was gained in performing some activities like typing, filing of documents, giving speed tests and assisting applicants.
