Abstract: Mararagan, Josephine L. and Vitobina, Rowena P. "Online Computer Aided instruction on Computer Concepts." Undergraduate Special problem- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. April 2004. Adviser: Mrs. Joy M. Arayata. The study aimed to develop a Computer Aided Instruction on Computer Concepts. The study resulted in an educational supplementary tool in the form of software. It helped the students in learning because of proper and well-presented information delivered by the software. Sounds and pictures played a great role in understanding the topics. The study had three levels of access, which includes the administrator, the instructor and the student. The administrator is responsible for accessing the home page, the lessons, the glossary of terms, the gallery about the subject, records of instructors, the profile, help menu and performing logout menu. The instructor is responsible for accessing the home page, the lessons, the glossary of terms, the gallery about the subject, records of students, the profile, the help and the logout menu- The student is capable of accessing the home page, the lessons and quizzes, the glossary of terms, the gallery about the subject, the profile, help menu and performing logout menu. The study covered the major areas of Computer Concepts based on the prescribed course analysis of the College including Introduction to Computer, Parts of Computer System; Personal Computer Hardware; Personal Computer Software; Number System; and Internet Operation. Pieces of information came from different books and surfing the Internet. In designing the software, the proponents used both the Hierarchical Input Process Output (HIPO) and Input Process Output (IPO) to have an overview of the overall structured design of the program. HIPO/IPO chart was a tool used to visualize the program architecture. Fourth- Generation Technique was the paradigm used because it has a broad range of tools that allows easy creation and modification of software. It allows programs to be created in a non- procedural manner. The scripting language used were Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) and Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), and MYSQL (Structured Query Language) was used as database. In the software evaluation, it was found out that the software served as an online computer based instructional material and teaching tool that is interesting and educational with the use of multi-media. It provided an online tutorial system that will assist students to study at their own pace and reviews information when needed. It also provided an Online Computer- Aided Instruction that allows students to access information about Computer Concepts anywhere he or she may be. The study proved that the use of computer- aided instruction is an effective tool in helping individuals to learn about Computer Concepts. To achieve the benefits of the software, the proponents recommend the uploading of the software in able to serve a reference to the students; the use of modern operating system including UNIX and Windows NT for quick Interaction; and for the enhancement, future software should allow updating of lessons based on the current standard course analysis of Computer Concepts subject.
